Val’s story

My name is Val. I have been recently diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. It was devastating for my family to receive this news, but through God’s grace I’m going to fight it until the end! I walk each day by faith and not sight and just remain positive through it all. I am inspired by the many survivors’ stories shared from themselves to me or literature that I’ve read. I have found my most support from my husband and kids. I also have two mentors that have been there for me. Reading scriptures from the Bible and listening to my Christian music has brought me so much joy. My favorite verse is Mark 11:23-24.

Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Cancer comes with a large price and being helped through Help Now Fund has helped manage the stress level that comes with that burden. Every day I start off by thinking “I am ___” and I fill in two words that make me strong and confident. Speaking in existence (present tense) helps heal the body “I am healed, I am strong, I am positive”.
