Skin Care Tips with Allie

I’ve been graciously blessed with good skin but it doesn’t mean I don’t do my part in making sure to keep it looking clear and glowing. My mom started selling Mary Kay when I was about 13 so I constantly heard “wash your face, don’t forget to put your sunscreen and moisturizer, don’t sleep in makeup”. At 13, my main priorities involved going to the movies or mall on Friday nights with my friends, like any typical teenage girl. Fast forward to age 15 and I started to notice my skin would get extremely dry, and looked so dull. I would always tell my mom that I thought my skin was turning green. like you see in movies when people get sick. Haha!  So, began my journey of forcing myself to stick to a skin care routine. Now, washing my face comes naturally. Not to mention, I love doing face masks more than I probably should. I’ve never heard of doing TOO many face masks though, have you?

Step One:

Water, water, water!! I can’t stress how important this one is. We should all be drinking water every day, even when we don’t want it. The benefits for you skin is such a huge plus! I found a water challenge on Pinterest a few years back, which basically said to take a before picture, drink 8 glasses of water a day for 21 days and then take an after picture. I kid you not, my skin looked as flawless as a new born baby’s skin. Any red spots, discoloration, wrinkle lines, had all reduced significantly. Another plus I dropped 5 pounds! Good skin and weight loss? What more could you need!

Step Two:

Washing your face. Is it 5 am and you don’t want cold water on your face when you’ve just woken up? Oh well, wash your face! Laid down and dozed off and you wake up and all you want to do is take off your bra, turn the lights out and fall blissfully back to sleep? Nu uh girl, wash your face! Sleep enables the body to reverse everyday free radical damage through cellular renewal. How can your skin get to work when your pores are clogged with a full face of makeup on? It can’t! So, in return you may wakeup and find a giant pimple or even worse, a full on break out and honestly, no one wants that. My favorite face wash that I live by is First Aid Beauty face cleanser and it can be found at Sephora.

Step Three:

Moisturizer and sun screen. Man, oh man this was one that was drilled into my head by my mother. I tried my fair share of moisturizer but I never found one that I truly love until I received a sample of Promise Organic Nourishing Coconut Milk Face Lotion in my ipsy bag. I immediately found the closest CVS (the only store its sold in) and bought 3 bottles of it. It has yet to let me down, and I have yet to find another moisturizer to top it. I don’t have a personal preference of sun screen. I just always make sure it’s something I lather on before my moisturizer. Especially in the summer time. No matter if its 90 degrees outside and the sun is blazing down, or its -10 degrees (let’s be honest though, I live in Texas and it’s never been that cold in my entire life) and its cloudy and gloomy outside. There are still those sneaky little sunrays waiting to catch you without sunscreen protection and cause damage to that beautiful skin of yours!

No matter what skin type you have, it’s never a bad thing to  get a skin care routine down. You’ll benefit from nothing but beautiful skin and who doesn’t want that? 😉
