May’s Story

survivor-storyMy journey with breast cancer began when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June of 2016. I have done around 5 months of Chemo, which I got done in January of 2017. I will have to be on Tamoxifen for life. The biggest lifestyle change that I have had to make was learning to trust in God. I have had to learn to trust the plan that God has made for me and appreciate life to the fullest. I am learning to not sweat the small stuff as well as just simply keep on living! I find support all over! I have my close family and friends that lift my spirits as well as online groups that help me out. I also go to local church groups as well as support groups that really help. Anything you can think of, I have done it! Knowing that I can take on every day and any challenges that come my way has brought me joy. Continuing to praise my wonderful twin 8 year-old boys alongside my husband has brought me so much joy as well. I am so thankful that I found the BCCA on a social media group I am a part of as well as from receiving a beauty bag while going through treatment. It is the littlest things that bring us joy when fighting this dreaded disease.

The hardest challenge that I have faced is that this is the hardest battle you will ever endure but maintaining a positive attitude is everything. I always remind myself that “I can do all things through God who strengthens me”. My faith has grown to the biggest degree imaginable during this journey. I found comfort in prayer. A piece of advice I can give to other breast cancer fighters or survivors is that I tried looking at this as a way to turn things around and make it a positive thing.
