or those of you that know me well or have been keeping up with my blogs, you know that I am a big supporter of the Paleo diet. Some like to refer to the paleo diet as the caveman diet because when you are picking out what food groups to choose from, you ask yourself “would a caveman be able to eat this?”. Back when there were cavemen, they didn’t have processed food, so that means basically staying out of the inside aisles of the grocery store. What makes me love this diet so much is the amazing benefits you receive from it, such as balancing your blood glucose levels which in turn can help you decrease your chances of obtaining diabetes, helps support the grown of leaner muscles, increases your digestion system, helps you sleep better by cutting out the chemicals and additives in processed food, and it prevents diseases such as breast cancer!
As an employee at BCCA I am a huge enthusiast of breast cancer preventative methods. Dietitians suggest that to help prevent breast cancer you should eat plenty of vegetables and fruits (about 5 cups a day), limit your saturated fat intake to less than 10% of your total calories per day, eat foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, and avoid trans fats and processed meats.
But I know sticking to such a strict diet when we have so many yummy processed options in front of you can be difficult at times. For example, I am a chocolate lover! My favorite indulgent is a warm piece of chocolate cake drizzled with extra chocolate. However, I want to stick to my diet and try to be the healthiest I can, so I found a paleo chocolate cake recipe that only takes 5 ingredients!
I found this recipe on EatDrinkPaleo.com and I love it! The ingredients you’ll need are eggs, raw cacao powder, coconut oil, sweetener of choice, and mixed barriers.
It only takes about 15 minutes to prepare, then 30 minutes to bake and is well worth it.
EatDrinkPaleo has a lot of options to choose from when you need some paleo recipe inspiration! I love turning to them for help on innovative ideas to try. Being the healthiest I can be is so important to me, and I love that fact that I can fight my chances of obtaining breast cancer with the paleo diet.
