Closing a Chapter

I have one more day of my internship here at BCCA. WOW! How time does fly. I feel like it was just yesterday that I started my first day here, and now I am saying goodbye to my beloved internship position. But, as the saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens.

I have been offered a part time position here at BCCA! And of course, I said YES! I cannot even begin to describe to you how much I enjoy being here. I leave here every afternoon knowing that I have been a part of making an impact, whether it be large or small, on hundreds of women’s lives. I have learned so much in my time here at BCCA.

Prior to my internship I had no experience of working for a non-profit, so this was a very eye-opening opportunity. I found out just how different it is to be a part of a non-profit, why it can be challenging, but why it can also be the best job ever! Firstly, as a non-profit we work solely in the hopes to help our society. We do not strive to make a profit for ourselves, but work to be there and help others in their time of need as much as possible. Second, we run from a board. This means that decisions about BCCA are not left for one person to make, but have a whole groups opinion on each little matter to make sure the right decisions are made.

What I love about this non-profit especially, though, is that 89% of the money raised through our events and fundraising efforts goes back towards our program services which directly help educate and support breast cancer patients, or those affected by breast cancer! Other non-profits on average only return 65-75% of their money raised back to program services, and the majority of them just raise money for research. BCCA Is here to help women all over the nation, and I am so lucky to be a part of that!

So, as I close the Internship chapter of my life, I open the next to a very rewarding and loved position here at BCCA with open arms. I cannot wait to see where my time here will take me, and how many lives I will so graciously be able to touch.
