I joke that I sported athleisure daily in college. Athleisure (n): casual, comfortable clothing designed to be suitable both for exercise and everyday wear. Here’s an actual photo of someone pulling off athleisure.

Here’s a photo of my daily uniform (true story: I once tried counting how many t-shirts I had…I gave up, partly out of shame, at 150).

The look:

Hair and makeup: minimal and/or slovenly

Top: brand: comfort colors. Where’d I get it? Mostly from my sorority, other organizations I was in, or they were shoved into my hands by a student rep for some apartment complex. The size: bigger the better, if you’re taller than 5’6″ your t-shirt size better start with an X. If I can tell you actually have a figure, you’re doing it wrong.

Bottoms: leggings or running shorts that are covered by the length of your shirt

Shoes: who cares? You didn’t put any effort in the rest of your appearance

Being fresh out of school, most people have to completely adopt an entirely new wardrobe and when you’re on a full-time internship you’re short on two things: time and money. With that in mind, I have learned that you need to buy key pieces you can wear 100 different ways. You also need to know when to splurge and when to save.

Our office is located by a mall, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Old Navy, AND a Target (if I knew how to insert the heart eye emoji into the blog post I would). At the office, we spend a lot of our lunch breaks scouring these stores for deals. I have found some great stuff like a pair of Steve Madden booties for $20 and a super versatile white American Eagle sweater for $4.

Here are some of the things I think you should save on and some you should splurge on but all that are must haves to start your work wardrobe.
