Resistant Band Workouts

Here at BCCA we stress on the importance of physical activity. Studies show that physically active women decrease their chances of breast cancer at a greater rate than women who are inactive. Physical activity also helps decrease the chances of a recurrence of breast cancer. However, we all know how hard it is to find time in our busy day to actually get in a good workout. Just the time driving to and from the gym adds another time limit obstacle in our way, and at home workouts aren’t as easy without the machines that the gym provides you. Well, I might have a solution to your problem!

My life started to get a little more time restricting two weeks ago when I started my second job and my master’s program. I now just don’t have the time to drive to the gym, circle the parking lot to find a parking spot, then drive home anymore. At that point, while at home, I cannot get in a good workout without all the machines and weights that a gym would let me utilize. So obviously, I went searching for a solution on Pinterest. I knew I couldn’t afford to buy a bunch of gym equipment and weights, so I needed another gadget to use at home. In my search, I found these awesome resistant bands!

There are so many different workouts you can do with these bands that focus on all different body parts from arms, core, and legs. AND, the best part is they are not expensive at all! Here is an example of a workout you can do with these bands:

This workout is very effective because it involves your whole body. You are bent over focusing on keeping your back straight by using your back and core muscles. Then, you use your legs (quads) to move from the 90-degree squatting position to the straight legged position. As you are straightening your legs, your whole upper body is working together to push up straight towards the sky against the weight of the resistant.

You can find these bands at your local Target, Walmart, or on Amazon for under $20.00! These are also great to bring with you on vacation, when you know that you won’t have access to a gym and are super lite weight to pack. Keeping yourself mentally and physically healthy decreases your chances of obtaining not only breast cancer, but many more diseases and illnesses.

Hello there! I am the Programs Assistant at The Breast Cancer Charities of America. Working for BCCA has brought me much joy, knowing I can be a part of helping others who are in need. But outside of work, I am a fitness junky, food lovin’, sunshine addict, crazy cat lady, with a gypsy soul. I love to find new and creative workouts, snuggling with my fur baby Jax, spending a sunny day out in the water (accompanied with an adult beverage) soaking up some vitamin D, and traveling the world.
