Would You Try Shaving Your Face?

I feel like I’ve written enough to be real honest with iGoPink’s Readers so here goes. I shave my face. *Gasp* yes, yes, I do. I’m not the first, last or only one who does. Did you know stars like Marilyn Monroe were fans of face shaving?! Let me tell you about why I started, what the benefits of it are and why you shouldn’t feel ashamed to say, “I shave my face” like it’s something only a man can do.

Since about the age of 13, when I noticed my little peach fuzz coming in strong I’ve always managed keeping it at bay. I’m Hispanic, so naturally my body hair is dark. There was no “just let it be, you can’t see it” oh no, girlfriend, you could most DEFINITELY see it. Why wasn’t I blessed with blonde hair and blue eyes like my mom? Who knows, but I’m still a little salty about it. Young me started off with the only thing I knew. Those awful, cheap, 2 bladed, BIC brand razors. I tried other things like plucking, Nair, which was and still is a horrible idea because I had a chemical burn on my upper lip for a good week. Ultimately, I stuck with waxing. That is until about 2 years ago when my mom introduced me to dermaplaning *cue fireworks*. Dermaplaning is a highly effective physical exfoliation procedure using a surgical scalpel to gently “shave” the skin’s surface, removing the top layer of dead skin along with vellus hair (aka your peach fuzz). This is usually done at your local spa, or by a trained professional. My mom is a nurse and literally the only person I trust to get near me with a blade that sharp while I’m conscious.

If you aren’t all for going to the spa there’s an easier, simpler, and all around cheaper way to get similar results! Eyebrow razors! Before you decide to shave your face, I suggest watching a YouTube video or 2 just so that you don’t accidentally run the blade the wrong way and end up with a not so pretty cut on your face. Let’s move on to the benefits! It triggers the cell regeneration process and allows products to better penetrate skin. As I said before, it also gets rid of dry skin, which makes applying makeup that much easier. Smooth face, glowing skin, your makeup looks FLAWLESS! It is literally scraping dead skin and peach fuzz off and leaves you feeling extra good about your skin. Pro tip: shave dry after you thoroughly wash your face! What better feeling? This may be weird, but I find it oddly satisfying yet gross to look at gunk I scrape off. Anyone else?

If you’re in need of a “Treat Yo Self” day then I highly recommend giving the spa a try and getting your face professionally “shaved” it’s something you won’t regret! Get a facial, dermaplane your face, get a massage. Relax and enjoy yourself! Writing this is literally making me want to leave work and go have a spa day myself. A girl can dream, right?
